Nouveau

is a chocolate company that I came up with for a project in my GD205 class. The assignment was to create a brand identity for a new chocolate company.

My Role

As this was a solo project, I first had to think about what feeling I wanted my brand to convey, and then implement it in numerous different ways – such as on packaging and promotional material.

Process

As this is a project and company I am very passionate about, I made sure to carefully break up the process into 3 stages. 

  1. Research and Inspiration

I began by researching current chocolate brands, both luxury and artisanal, to identify what makes each stand out. I analyzed color palettes, typography, and packaging trends to understand how visual design can communicate quality, flavor, and personality. My goal was to create something that felt modern and elegant, yet approachable.​

   2. Creating a Brand Identity

The name Nouveau, meaning “new” in French, reflects the brand’s focus on innovation and sophistication. I designed a visual identity that combines sleek typography with minimalist illustrations, emphasizing craftsmanship and luxury. My process included creating multiple different iterations of this design until I landed on lotus flowers, which bring out the natural, organic feel I wanted to convey. â€‹

   3. Design and Application

Once the brand direction was established, I designed product packaging for the chocolate by creating and following a template in a unique shape.I also created promotional materials, such as posters and social media mockups, to show how the brand could exist across digital and print platforms. Every element was carefully designed to feel cohesive, premium, and timeless.

Outcome

Through this project, I strengthened my understanding of branding systems and learned how to create a visual language that can scale across multiple touchpoints. Nouveau allowed me to explore how design can shape perception, transforming something as simple as chocolate into an elevated brand experience.
